Centennial Square, located in Parque do Povo in Presidente Prudente, was officially inaugurated on April 13, 2018, during a ceremony attended by local authorities and featuring musical performances. The space commemorates the city’s centennial (2017) and spans a total area of 16,000 m² — 11,619 m² of which are built — and features various symbolic elements that tell the story of Prudente.

Key Features

Entrance Monument (8–9 meters tall): represents the handshake between Colonels José Soares Marcondes and Manoel Goulart — founders who, despite being rivals, joined forces to build the city. The figures, facing the horizon, symbolize "prosperity for the people for another 100 years."

Raised Compass Rose: designed into the ground with granite and stones, it indicates the four cardinal directions and integrates a map of the city, including neighborhoods, districts, and watercourses (Rio do Peixe, Mandaguari, and Santo Anastácio).

Time Capsule: buried on-site with photos, messages, and documents from organizations that contributed to the centennial, scheduled to be opened in 2067.

Landscape Design and Infrastructure

Architecture by Maurício Fernandes (Department of Urban Planning)

Over 4,000 m² of permeable paving (Portuguese stone mosaic, exposed brick, and interlocking tiles)

LED lighting throughout, promoting sustainability and energy efficiency

Planting of 40 imperial palms, along with jequitibá trees, ipês, quaresmeiras, and flame trees

Usage and Attractions
The square serves as an open-air gathering spot, ideal for walks, picnics, and cultural events such as food truck festivals, artistic performances, and the traditional “Christmas Village” during the holiday season. Its wide lawn and nearby amenities — like benches and walking paths — invite community interaction and leisure amid the natural beauty of Parque do Povo.

Visiting Centennial Square is, therefore, both a journey through the history of Presidente Prudente and an opportunity to enjoy a contemporary space of community and entertainment.
