Former site of Great Northern Railway's Lyndale Yard. Primarily used for sorting incoming grain destined for the mills that once dotted downtown Minneapolis' waterfront, the facility became part of the Burlington Northern in 1970 and was closed and torn up in the late 1980s following the decline of industry in the core of Minneapolis. Today the site is owned by the City of Minneapolis public works department and used for storage of materials like salt and sand, among others.
