railway, Kettle Valley Railway (KVR), bridge, railway bridge, historic landmark

There is a marker with a bronze plaque at the NW side of the bridge.

It reads:

constituency of the British Columbia legislature
from 1963 to 1975.
He was appointed Minister of Public Works in
1972 and was instrumental in the creation of the
Insurance Corporation of British Columbia.
Bill Hartley served the people of this region
with honour and distinction.
Officially dedicated by the Hon. Harry S. Lali,
Minister of Transportation and Highways and MLA
for Yale-Lillooet.
September 11, 1999

but that was just from when they did some upgrade work. The bridge itself is much older than that.

The bridge was built around 1911 for the Kettle Valley Railway's Coquihalla Subdivision line through the Coquihalla route. It consists of four 240-foot (73 metre) double-deck through truss spans, for a total length of 950 feet (290 metres). The upper deck was built for auto traffic, and is still used for that purpose. Thelower deck was used by the KVR. The lower deck has been barricaded with a fence and the cross ties have been removed, preventing public access onto the former railway crossing.
