Brownsville, MN


Brownsville is a city in sections 23 and 26 of Brownsville Township, Houston County, Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the city had a population of 517.

The area was first settled in November 1848, the township platted in 1854, and organized May 11, 1858. The village of Brownsville (previously known as Wild Cat Bluff) was organized on March 2, 1858.

The Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad served Brownsville with a station in section 26 from 1871 until 1985, with a line now operated by the Iowa, Chicago and Eastern.
