Established in 1883 by inventor John Trix and H. Murdock, American Injector made injectors, valves and other devices for boilers, pumps and refrigeration equipment. In 1908 the company moved from its location at 175 Larned Street West to a newly constructed factory at 1481 14th Street. It continued its operations until 1950 when the property became home to the Michigan School of Trades Automotive Division. From the late 1980s until 2004 it was occupied by textile maker John Johnson Company. In 2004 it was acquired by the Maroun interests and demolished.
