site of Norsk Hydro Magnesium plant constructed in 1989 at which time it was the largest primary producer of magnesium in the world. It was closed in 2007 when it became unable to compete with Chinese producers which sold magnesium at $.90 a pound vs. Norsk's $1.40 cost of production. The plant was dismantlement in 2009 and the equipment sold to a Chinese company.
