On september 2 and 3, 1944, the city of Mons was liberated by the troops of the US Army's 1st Infantry Division and 3rd Armored Division. For the people of Mons who lived through these events, this Sherman tank remains the most representative symbol of the liberation. It is in that spirit that is presented to you as a collector's item of the Mons Memorial Museum.
This M4A1 (76) W Sherman ''IN THE MOOD'' replicates the third of three tanks named after the Glenn Miller melody ''IN THE MOOD'' assigned to the US Army 32nd Armored Regiment, 3rd Armored Division and commanded by Staff Sergeant Lafayette G. Pool. In september 1944, this tank and crew parcipated in liberation of the area aroud Mons, tank battles around Namur and the capture of Liege.
