Korea (South) / Kyonggi / Kuri / Guri

Mongneung is the tomb of King Seonjo (1552-1608), the 14th monarch of Joseon, his first Queen Uiin (1555-1600) from the Park family, and his 2nd Queen Inmok (1584—1632) from the Kim family.

Seonjo's mound is on the west side, Uiins in the middle, and Inmok's on the east. They are under separated mounds placed on three adjacent hills running from the same main guardian mountain, which is called Dongwonigangneung.

Having suffered two Japanese invasions in 1592 and in 1597, King Seonjo earned the title 'Seonjo' posthumously, because he led Korea to successfully repel the Japanese invasions.
During the his reign, many talented scholars and civil officials came forward for their country. Therefore. they called his reign the Glorious Mongneung era.

The stone figures of civil and military officials are large in scale and superb quality. Also the divine roads to the divine gate of the T—shaped pavilion from each mound are unique.
