American University in Cairo (AUC) is now relocated from the old campus in Downtown Cairo to New Cairo. The campus have an area of approximately 280 acres (1.1 km²) compared to the current campus of only 7.8 acres. The campus will accommodate about 5,500 full time students as well as 1,500 faculty and staff. Construction of the new campus is estimated to cost around $ 400 million making it the largest in Egypt.
