St Thomas's is a Catholic secondary school of approximately 750 pupils, run by the City of Edinburgh council. The school originally comprised of Victorian tenement buildings with various modern extensions added over the years. Falling into dis-repair, the council re-built the school on its original site with modern, purpose-built facilities. The new building was opened in 2002 by First Minister Jack McConnell.
