Herzberg Castle is one of the few half-timbered castles in Niedersachsen. It was first constructed in the 11th century, but had to be rebuilt after a major fire in 1510.

The building ceased to be used a residence in 1714 and in 1882 it became the seat of the Herzberg District Court. Today it also houses a restaurant, a museum of tin figurines, and exhibits on local history.
