Freeborn is a city in sections 34 and 35 of Freeborn Township, Freeborn County, Minnesota. The population was 297 at the 2010 census.

Freeborn Township was first settled in 1856 and organized in 1858. The village of Freeborn was platted in sections 34-35 in 1857, and incorporated in 1858. It was again in an unincorporated status until it was reincorporated in 1949.

The post office was established in 1857. The Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad served Freeborn from 1907 until 1979.
