  • Before it was NTC it was Orlando Air Force Base (not to be confused with McCoy AFB). OAFB was home to the 1381st Geodetic Survey Squadron untill the mid 60s.
  • I went there in 90. Can't even recognize the place.
  • I wore out some shoe leather walking around here in 88-90
  • I also was here in 90. Spent Thanksgiving and Christmas here.
  • I did a lot of push-ups and ran a bunch of miles around this place in the early 80's. I got back down there sometime around 97, after it was closed, before it was erased. It was wierd and sad to see a place, I remembered as full of activity, silent. Kind of like going to one for your old ships that is now a museum, or going to the Cubi Bar in the Pensacola Naval Air Museum. Old memories and pictures are all that is left. God bless you guys and girls that were there and those who still are "Standing the Watch"
  • Remember those hot days marching on the "Grinder" Boy they sure built up fast!!
  • Boot Camp, BE+E School, and Nuclear Power School, 7-7-77 to 11-11-1979. Didn't car for boot camp much, and Nuke School was hard, but I wouldn't trade my time in Orlando for anything. I had really hoped to go back and see the place one day but now I'm saddened to learn it's gone. Oh well.
  • I attended Boot Camp at RTC Orlando Florida in August through December of 1970. I would not recognize the Place if I ever returned there to see the old site. We had women in the Navy training at this site. First known as WAVES then WINS equalization finally came to the Navy and they are simply fellow Sailors like the rest of us.
  • Went there 27 June to 19 August 1977. Oh the heat of summer in "Boot Camp",doing infantry training on that asphalt "GRINDER". Memories of HELL;but would'nt trade them for anything. Orlando RTC turned a then 17 year old punk kid into a responsible man.
  • i was bldg support bldg304 ssc tma school still live in florida a goodfew years of shoreduty went back in 2009 and nothing left except the 2 highrise barrracks they were deserted
  • I attended bootcamp in RTC Orlando from Jun- Aug 1980. What a great experience I had there, then on to NTTC Pensacola for training as a Cryptologist. I would not trade the experience for anything in the world. The heat on the grinder that I endured marching sure beat the heat I was enduring in the tobacco fields of North Carolina (affectionately known as "Tobacco Road"). It is on my bucket list to return there just to check it out and reflect on where my professional career began. I did 21 years in the Navy and now as a DOD civilian. Life has been awesome.
  • I was there from Aug 1970 to Nov 1970... NTC Company #154. MMC Ronald E Statton was our company commander and lead us to take most of the flags. He took 71 boys from all over and made them into a unit of 71 one men in one team. Amazing and utterly horrible experience that still makes me smile.
  • I spent my time there from December 1989-March 1990 for basic training. Most of 1990 and early 91 for "EM" A-school and Nuke power. left 91 to head to Connecticut for prototype. Haven't been back since. Just found out it was closed. Kind of sad. Always said I was going to revisit old stomping grounds, now I wish I had.
