Jeseungdang Monument to Hangeul (Korean alphabet) was erected in 1948 through donations collected from elementary and middle school students in Gyeongsangnamdo to commemorate Korea’s independence. The inscription exhorts citizens to draw inspiration from the patriotic spirit of Admiral Yi Sun-sin.
The text of the inscription was written by Jung In-bo (Wi Dang), and the calligraphy was done by Kim Chung-hyeon (il Jung).
