ruins, archaeological site
Batogay or Tatogay (among other spellings) is the ruined site of a long-abandoned settlement northeast of modern Korgalzhyn in Kazakhstan. The ruins come from different periods and are found scattered in the area, including some north of the Nura river. The mausoleum of Botagay (or Batogay, etc) is the only well-preserved structure, and has been dated to the 11th-12th century. According to an old map, the site was a Nogay stronghold. Other remains have been identified as dating to the Buddhist Jungars (who built their monastery and fortress Borotala here in the 1640s) and the Muslim Kazakhs.
