A triangular green space located between the Steel Bridge (upper level) and the Oregon Convention Center, the Peace Memorial Park was established in 2006 and is maintained by the Portland Chapter of Veterans For Peace (VFP). Technically a transportation right of way heavily trafficked by pedestrians and bicyclists, the park falls under the purview of the Portland Bureau of Transportation rather than Portland Parks and Recreation. For a number of years the peace sign was replanted annually with flowers. Beginning in 2013, volunteers began transitioning it to a drought-tolerant perennials garden in order to minimize maintenance. Annual wildflowers are still part of the mix. Volunteers are welcome to join work parties held every 2nd and 4th Saturday from 10 to Noon.

The Peace Memorial Park is dedicated to the memory of all those people, including combatants, who have ever perished in war, and is so dedicated in the hope that we will be joined by like-minded people in the effort to put an end to warfare so that humankind can live in peace.
