Surat Airport (Gujarati: સુરત વિમાનમથક) is a domestic airport (IATA: STV, ICAO: VASU), located in Magdala, near Surat in the Western Indian state of Gujarat.The total area of the airport complex (including runway, tarmac and terminal) is 312 Hectares. The Surat airport will soon have a night landing facility. The Instrument Landing System imported from Germany for making night landing facility possible at the Surat airport has arrived. Setting up the system will take less than two months. Once operating, the night landing system will facilitate smooth operations during fog and rainy atmosphere too at the airport. Modern terminal building, Air Traffic Control tower, Fire station, DVAR systems are already activated at the airport. Runway of the Surat airport has been recently expanded to 2250 metre(7382 ft).

The airport was inaugurated on 6 May 2007 with an Indian Airlines Airbus 319 flight to Delhi on 1240 IST The flight was flagged off by Indian civil aviation minister Praful Patel.

The Airport Authority of India announced that Surat Airport's requires 1000 hectares of land for International Airport, and the Gujarat government has allocated such land for the development. Planned improvements include a night landing system, and the capacity to handle up to 70 jets at a time. Other developments include extending the runway to 2500 meters.

Surat airport will have Instrument Landing System (ILS) to provide precision guidance to aircraft approaching a runway. A combination of radio signals and high-intensity lighting arrays will enable a safe landing during Instrument Meteorological Condition (IMC) such as low ceilings or reduced visibility due to fog and rain.

New Surat airport terminal building was inaugurated on 27 February 2009 by Praful Patel. The terminal building constructed at a cost of Rs 40 crore has a total floor area of 8,500 sq mt to handle more than 270 passengers. It is equipped with CCTV cameras, two conveyors at the arrival building, one hand baggage X-ray machine among other modern facilities. Soon, the terminal building will have two air bridges with visual docking guidance system, two elevators and two escalators, and 120 seats lounge. Work for the second floor of the terminal building is yet to be completed. Photos given above shows glimpses of new terminal.
