Michigan's largest Catholic university founded in 1877 by Jesuit priests. The original campus in downtown Detroit is now the Law School. In 1990, the University of Detroit merged with nearby Mercy College which was founded in 1941 by the Religious Sisters of Mercy to form the University of Detroit Mercy.
