  • The pontoon bridge connecting Porto on the north side of the river Duro and Vila Nova de Gaia on the southern side. On March 28th 1809 during the first battle of Porto when the French invaded and captured the city the inhabitants fleeing from the French were crossing the bridge when it collapsed and hundreds were drowned.
