Painted Hills Wind Farm is located in the San Gorgonio Wind Resource Area, north of Interstate 10 about 3/4 mile northwest of Exit 117 north of Palm Springs, California. Commissioned in 1985, it consisted of 'about' 231 wind turbines in total, all on trestle towers, with a combined nominal capacity of 19.265 MW. These were 170 Vestas V17's (rated at 90 kW) and 61 Vestas V15's (65 kW, on the east side of the site)
Over the years a number of these have been decommissioned (and removed, mostly); current images show only about 210 towers with their blades attached.
