City of AthensThe Capital of Greece.
Was a very powerful city-state before the rise of Rome. The patron goddess of ancient Athens was Athena, the goddess of wisdom. Athena's symbol was the owl, thus the ancient athenians depicted the owl on their minted coins of the ancient athenian drachma. The athenian drachma was a currency unit of universal importance, used 2500 - 2000 years ago all over the then known classical and hellenistic world. In 2002 CE the greek government chose to resuscitate this ancient owl and the world's most powerfull currency, the euro, circulates around the globe, bearing the depiction of the owl on the greek national side of the 1 euro coin. Hence history seems to repeat itself after 2500 years. rg.ancients.info/owls/ www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcP1lzJxzwY www.greece-athens.com/ www.vgreece.com/index.php?category=1111
