Bute House (Gaelic: Taigh Bhòid) is the official residence of the First Minister of Scotland, who is the head of the Scottish Government, the country's devolved government established in 1999. Prior to this it was the official residence of the Secretary of State for Scotland.

  • The three houses 5/6/7 Charlotte Square had been acquired by the 4th Marquess of Bute who did much to protect scottish architecture prior to the establishment of the national Trust for Scotland who for sometime had there headquarters here.It was accepted in lieu of death duties from the Later Marquess of Bute and turned into the official residence of the Secretary of State for Scotland.First to occupy the house was Gordon Campbell.91970/74);Official residence First Minister since 1999.The final house became the Georgian house open to thepublic with the upper flat for the use of the Moderator of the Church of Scotland
