Margate is a city located in Broward County, Florida; the land area is approximately 9 square miles, and according to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2006 estimates, the city had a population of 56,002. The town was planned in 1953 by Jack Marqusee, who financed the the operation. On May 30, 1955 the town of Margate was founded with a population of just 200 residents. In 1961, the town was re-incorporated as a city.
Victor Semet and Jack Sullivan were also instrumental in the planning, design, and landscaping of the city, since the entire area was surrounded by farmland. Margate was advertised on billboards and magazine advertisements, so that people would visit the model homes and move to the area.
