Madison is a city in Lake County, South Dakota, USA. The population was 6,540 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Lake County.
It was served by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad from 1898 until 1979.

Madison is home to Dakota State University (DSU). DSU is an NSA certified Center for Academic Excellence. Furthermore, DSU has an NSA certified Master's program in Information Assurance. Also, DSU recently received over two million dollars to form a research center for security in finance and banking.
