Historic Manchac Bayou meets the Amite River. (?)Iberville came down Bayou Manchac from the Mississippi River to this point on the Amite River, possibly seeking this alternate route to the mouth of the Mississippi. Follow the Amite down to the Blind River, Lake Maurepas, Lake Ponchartrain (New Orleans), the Rigolets, and the Gulf of Mexico near the mouth of the Mississippi.
