Terminal 1 of Beijing Capital Airport was opened on January 1, 1980 replacing the original 1958 terminal building. It features 16 gates and has 60,000 square metres of floorspace. After the opening of Terminal 2 in 1999, Terminal 1 underwent a major renovation until 2004. With the opening of Terminal 3, the terminal was closed for light refurbishment from May to June 2008. During both of the terminal's closures, all of its airlines were moved to Terminal 2.
