Grodziec - since 1975 it is a district of Będzin situated in north-west part of the city, nearby St.Dorota hill (382m).
Its historical background goes back to the XIII century, when in 1254 Grodziec was a property of Norbertines Monastery. The name 'Grodziec' regards to ancient settlement and remained after a castle, which unfortunately didn't stand a time test and the First World War.
Until XX century there was a few significant industrial plants in the area: Grodziec Cement Works - the oldest one in Poland (closed in 1979), Grodziec Coal Mine (working until December 1998) and Grodziec Brewery (1800-1948).
