Helicopter Landing Zone or HLZ

This was nothing more than an empty lot during normal daily operations. In December of 1990 as foreigners were leaving the country, it became a favorite spot to park cars.

During the evacuation day, these cars were removed. The first Sea Stallion helicopter landed here Dec. 05 early morning, the place had no markings, except for a retired marine that runned around with a white towel. The last helicopter left late that day.
