The national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal was interred after his execution on December 30, 1896. His body rested here from 1896 to 1898. His remains were exhumed in 1898 and then moved to his house in Binondo, Manila. It is currently beneath his monument in Rizal Park since being reburied in 1912.
