Opened in September 1954, Princess Anne High School, home of the Cavaliers, houses grades 9 through 12, and is the oldest continously-operating high school in Virginia Beach. The building has undergone several expansions over the years. The "original" section is the gymnasium, and the front horseshoe-shaped structure.

In September 1995, mere days before the start of the new school year, a massive fire erupted in the library, which consumed a good portion of the front wing. The school would be closed for a year and a half for repairs, during which time PA students were relocated to Celebration Station, a defunct shopping mall further east on Virginia Beach Boulevard. Princess Anne would reopen midway through the 1996-1997 school year with a completely rebuilt front wing.
