Erlestoke is an adult male, category ‘C' closed training prison, and the only prison in Wiltshire.

It receives adult male prisoners from much of England and Wales, as well as from local prisons in South Wales and Bristol in particular.

Within the Operational Capacity of 426, the population currently includes 30 life-sentenced prisoners.
Accommodation: Mainly single cell occupancy with integral sanitation. Small number of double, purpose-built cells on two of the accommodation units, and two three-bed rooms on one other accommodation unit.
Eight accommodation units, 3 Enhanced; 3 Standard; 1 Resettlement unit (16 beds); 1 Lifer and long-term prisoner unit.

Operational Capacity: 426 as at 11th March 2005

Reception Criteria: No property is accepted into the prison, either by post or on visits. It must be purchased using allowances from the I & EP scheme.

Erlestoke is not really equipped to accommodate disabled prisoners. Our reception is upstairs and most work is for prisoners assessed at labour 1 (fit). There is only a part-time healthcare facility.
