Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) is geared up to spud its first
exploration well in the Saurashtra block SR-OSN-94/1. "The company will
begin work to drill the first exploration well in the minimum work
programme (MWP) of Phase-II very soon," reliable company sources told
this website on Friday. RIL is awaiting a formal environmental
clearance to go-ahead with its drilling programme in the block. The
company recently completed the geochemical sampling and analysis in the
offshore block. According to the Production Sharing Contract (PSC),
Reliance is committed to acquire 400 sq km of 3D seismic data in the
first two phases of exploration in SR-OSN-94/1. Reliance has already
over-shot its entire 3D seismic data in the block. "Against a committed
400 sq km, the company acquired over 1,280 sq km of 3D seismic -- in
the block -- under Phase-I and II of the MWP," sources added. Reliance
has already completed environmental studies in the block. SR-OSN-94/1
is a pre-NELP block and Reliance has a 100% stake. The block is spread
over an area of 6,800 sq km.
