The first evidence of its existence is from the seventeenth century in the Cargona District of Yambol. There was also a cell school next to the church. After the establishment of the Bulgarian Exarchate in 1871 during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878 the church was burned and after the Liberation in 1884 a new church was built on the site of the old church under the leadership of the famous master builder Tsanyu from Tryavna.
