The Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad mainline between Seattle and Chicago operated through this 1516' tunnel from 1909 until March 1980. Including the branch lines, there were a total of 64 tunnels on the Milwaukee Road, of which 8 remain in use.
