Tikkana Somayaji (1205-1288) was the Minister for Munamasiddi Bhupala, the King of Vikrama Simhapuri or present day Nellore. Tikkana is most famous for translation of Andhra Bharathamu that has been started by Adikavi Nannaya. Tikkana translated the 15 Parvas starting from 4th Virata Parva to the last 15th Parva. The Tikkana temple in this park is the place where the translation took place.
As the minister during his period Munamasiddi Bhupala had to fight with the KatamaRaya (Yadava Kings) and Tikkana approached the Kakatiya Samrat Ganapati Deva of Origallu (present day Warangal) and successfully defeated the Yadava king.
