Estate home designed c. 1930 in the Norman style by Dwight James Baum on originally 5 acres of land for John Francis Murray {industrialist, inventor, financier}. Murray served as president of Murray Radiator Co., vice president of the Thomas E. Murray engineering consulting firm, co-founder and partner of John F. Murray & Co. stock brokerage firm, and was an inventor of conduit systems.

Murray had lived prior in Southhampton before this home by Baum was constructed. His daughter married Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt, II and resided at "Broadhollow" in Brookville and "Oakley Court" in Mill Neck.
