The Mill Creek Mall in Secaucus, NJ, was built in the early 1980's. The developer who built this mall also built nearby office and condominium complexes. The mall had a Kohl's a Stop & Shop and a main 190,000sq ft enclosed section with a food court and 50 other stores. The main section was planned to be closed and emolished on October 1, 2007 and there was major oppositon to the plan, because tenants did not want to move. In December 2007, a judge ruled that all tenants had to close their buisnesses and vacate the buiding by January 1, 2008.The Kohls and Stop & Shop were the only two tenants not forced to vacate the mall. By March 2008, demolition on the mall began and went through to about August 2008. The new mall construction began soon after and was finished in November 2009. In between the demolition and construction the Stop & Shop closed, leaving Kohl's to be the only remaining tenant until construction finishes. Now instead of 50 stores and a food court, there are only 5 new stores have been added along with Kohl's. The new tenants of the shopping center are Toys R Us, Babies R Us, TJ Maxx, The Sports Authority, and Bob's Furniture store.
