Designed c. 1928 in the Art Deco style by William P. Day (of the firm of Weeks & Day) and George F. Kelham. Its interior features a monumental 251' mural by Lowell Nesbitt depicting Naval history in the Pacific since 1813. Treasure Island was intended to be turned into the San Francisco Airport when the 1939-40 World's Fair closed. This building was constructed as the main passenger terminal and also served as the Administration Building during the fair. When WWII broke out, the site was taken over by the Navy and the airport was eventually built south of the city on the site of former Mills Field.

The Art Deco building had various uses and was also the site of the Treasure Island Museum before it closed in 1997. The exterior was used in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in 1989 as the exterior of Berlin's Tempelhof Airport. Also used as the Hotel Stafford in the 1998 Lindsay Lohan remake of "The Parent Trap". Today it serves largely as offices for The Villages, a private apartment rental agency.
