Camp Desert Rock was a housing and staging area for troops brought to the NTS for experiments involving how troops performed under the threat of nuclear shock waves and fallout from atmospheric nuclear weapons tests in the 1950's. The Army said it was 'safe', but my Dad died of leukemia from being a witness at 2 nuclear weapons tests, so maybe it's not so safe.
