On occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Balkan Wars (1912-1913), Steering Committee supported the idea of Major Nikolai Kozhuharov to build a chapel in memory of those killed during the wars. A year later the chapel opened on May 6, 2013 - St. George's Day and Day of the Bulgarian Army. The shrine honours the 1080 fallen war heroes, served in 24th Black Sea Infantry Regiment during the most severe battles of the Balkan wars - the battles of Lozengrad, Lyuleburgas, Bunar Hissar, Chataldja, Edirne fortress attack and others. Martyr George is one of the most revered saints in Christianity and is celebrated as a protector of soldiers. Most often depicted as a knight in armour, defeating a fearsome dragon.
