Two 6" British Armstrong guns on pedestal mounts were mounted here from 1899 to 1919 and one 3" masking pedestal mount gun was mounted here from 1904 to 1920.
The two 6" British Armstrong guns on pedestal mounts were moved and put on display behind Battery Laidley at Fort De Soto in 1980.
The battery is now floating out to sea.
Battery Burchsted was named on May 15, 1903 in honor of 1st Lieutenant Henry A. Burchsted, 2d U.S. Infantry, who was killed November 30, 1813 in action with Indians on the Alabama River, Alabama.
