Two 3" masking pedestal mount guns were mounted here from 1906 to 1921. These were replaced by two 3" pedestal mount guns from Battery Smyth which were mounted here from 1921 to 1947.
Battery Basinger was named on March 30, 1903 in honor of 2nd Lieutenant William E. Basinger, 2nd U.S. Artillery, who was killed December 28, 1835 in action with Seminole Indians at Withlacoochee River, Florida.
