"Omaha Road" Railroad Bridge

This railroad bridge over the Mississippi River was owned by the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railroad, known as the "Omaha Road". The CSPM&O was merged into it's parent, the Chicago and North Western, which in turn was merged into the Union Pacific Railroad.
The other railroad involved with this bridge was the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul, which became known as the "Milwaukee Road". It was merged into the Soo Line Railroad, part of Canadian Pacific.
This crossing opened September 29, 1869, while the current bridge dates from 1916. The bridge features a moving swingspan, which opens for river traffic. All of the railroad bridges built upriver from this point were constructed with fixed spans.
