  • Original German name Hellenen Kaserne, named Kelley Barracks after the US installed the Headquarters of VII Corps of the US Army there in the early 1950's. VII Corps HQ remained at Kelley until the unit was deployed to the Persian Gulf for Desert Storm. Following Desert Storm, VII Corps was redeployed to the US and deactivated at Ft Stewart, Georgia. From that time until the arrival of AFRICOM, the 6th ASG was the primary resident activity. Once primarily a US Army installation, the post is now "purple" as in multi -service as it hosts a Department of Defense Unified Command. Members of all branches of the US Armed forces serve here.
