  • This airfield was also used as a dragstrip in the early 1980's. It was known as Creeds dragstrip. I competed here in the first Virginia - North Carolina grudge match.I lost in the second round to a dodge roadrunner. Good times...
  • Sorry Plymouth Roadrunner
  • Also known as Creeds Field. Probably constructed during the 1930's under one of President Roosevelt's work plans of his "New Deal".
  • It was a dragstrip in the 1960's also.
  • It was constructed by the Navy beginning in summer 1940 and commissioned in April 1943 as Creeds Naval Outer Landing Field, an auxiliary field for NAS Norfolk. It was a training and support base for Wildcats and Avengers used on escort carriers for convoy patrol. The navy constructed two practice bombing targets to the east side of the runways which have since been removed.
