Comments

  • During the summer weekends they occasionally will have ice-cream making exhibitions and share the ice cream for free.
  • They also have guided tours (~$5?) of the sample working mill, an extensive schedule of other events, presentations, participatory activities, outdoor blacksmith (iron working) exhibit and demonstrations, etc., for adults, and for children. See Fairfax county parks. You might not want to know, but the 'mill stream' is electrically pumped over the waterwheel from the 'down stream' duck pond, since H.Agnes (I think) scoured and dropped the Colvin Run stream bed by about 15'. There are some huge pumps buried in the stream bed on the other side of the pike, which can pump crik water up into the feeder canal when needed.
  • Wikid, I heard from an employee of the Mill that it was the development of Carper's Farm which altered the stream profile enough to require pumping. A single storm scouring 15 feet from a creek bed profile would require rainfall of biblical proportions. Rainfall in that part of FFx Co. from Agnes was about 10-15 inches. A lot, but not enough to reshape the earth.
