This BNSF Railway bridge was constructed during 1884 by the Northern Pacific Railway, and was later modified in 1927 and 1963. Now operated by BNSF, railroad freight traffic crossing the bridge to and from the industrial areas on the west bank of the river has diminished.

Railroad bridges were built at 56 locations to cross the Mississippi River,
and 36 of these crossings are still in use by freight railroads.
