This former Northern Pacific Railroad bridge, built during the 1870s and replaced in 1891, is used by freight trains crossing over the Mississipi River. Traffic levels on the bridge have fallen considerably over the years, and it is now rarely used by BNSF Railway. This traffic consists mainly of military equipment moving to or from the National Guard's Camp Ripley.
