St. Ludwig is one of Munich's monumental churches. It is one of the world's largest churches in neo-romanesque style and houses the world's second-largest altar fresco.
Commissioned by king Ludwig I. of Bavaria as part of his Ludwig boulevard. Constructed 1829-44. Severely damaged by air bombardments in World War 2. Reconstruction lasted until 1952.
