"Balabana" Managed Nature Reserve

"Balabana" is a managed nature reserve, declared by Order № 2676 from 21.12.01960 of the General Department of Forests, in order to retain certain types of herons. Categorized as reserve maintained by Order РД-376 of 15.10.1999 and updated by ordinance № РД-57 from 30.01.2008 of Ministry of Environment and Water. The reserve has an area of 76.98 hectares and falls in property № 078013 in town of Elhovo.
Aims of the declaration: habitats of different types of herons. Flat dense forests.
Unique identification code in the register of protected areas in Bulgaria: 17
Current prohibitions and regimes until a plan for the management of the natural reserve has been created, the following activities are allowed:
1. Carry out sanitary lumbering;
2. Restoration and maintenance of the forest near the river;
3. Creating conditions for the nesting of the herons;
4. Control the number of foxes, jackals, beech martens, wild boars.
